Excellent Elephant Party

For Ezra's birthday this year, we went with an "Excellent Elephant" Party. He chose the theme and colors - green and gold and elephants are his favorite! I mixed in silver and white too, since that seemed to go with the elephants.

We kept it super simple. Poor kid has a birthday right after Christmas, so we will likely always "keep it simple" - unless we decide to celebrate his birthday some other time of year!

The balloons were a major part of the decorations and doubles as a party activity. I had put little treats inside the balloons to weight them down a bunch. Then, during the party, the kids got to pick a balloon (or 3) and pop them to get the prize. Like a piñata, but without the panic!

All I did was tape them above the food table, so they took the place of a backdrop for the table too. Pulling triple duty!

I used wrapping paper on the buffet line instead of a tablecloth. Worked great! It was silver and white so it matched well and when the party was over we just threw all the disposable stuff on top, wrapped it all up and smooshed it into the garbage.

I made a little elephant garage with mini elephant figures and one big papa elephant. They were carrying flags! I made them out of washi tape and toothpicks and just taped them to the little elephants.

Papa elephant carried a giant flag made out of paper and pencil, and there was a hole drilled in his back to help carry it.

Food was super simple, just like the rest. Animal crackers, green apple licorice, peanuts, popcorn, water and green apple drink.

Justin made the cake and decorated it with green and gray frosting stripes on the side. I put two elephant cake toppers on, each with three holes drilled in for candles. We had one other candle that we put in the light up number 7.

There were some green sprinkles around the cake too.

I think for a simple homemade birthday party, this one was really nice. It wasn't over the top, but we all needed a break after the hubbub of the holidays anyway!

And just like that, he turned 7 years old.
